Depositing strains

The SCCAP very much appreciate depositing of new strains. We are particular interested in strains that are authentic, harmful, biotechnological interesting, originate from extreme habitats, etc.

Strains should 'pure' i.e. free from other eukaryotes.
All deposited strain will be given a SCCAP number, be public available and cannot be withdrawn from SCCAP by the depositor.

SCCAP will only accept strains without any restrictions on its use for research purposes and also prefer that commercial exploitation is without any limitations apart from any patents associated with the strain. Thus, strains from countries with free access to their biological resources with respect to the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD), are particular preferred. This should be checked at the national CBD focal point of the country of origin prior to deposition (for list of national focal points see: http://www.cbd.int/information/nfp.shtml.

Alternatively, if the country of origin has legislation with respect to the CBD, or other national legislation with respect to use and distribution of their biological resources, SCCAP needs copies of the PIC and MAT certificate or other relevant documents from the country of origin, together with the SCCAP depositions form or alternatively a reference number to ABS Clearing House (https://absch.cbd.int). The PIC and MAT or other relevant documents should clearly state that uses for research purposes are unconditional and deposition in a public service collection and distribution to third parties are accepted. If this is not clearly stated, the PIC and MAT or other relevant documents should be re-negotiated with the national focal point of the country of origin before the deposition can be accepted.

The SCCAP deposition form (together with copies of PIC & MAT or alternatively Clearinghouse reference no) must be filled out for each deposited strain, signed and e-mailed to SCCAP before deposition.
